Answers from TravallamaINS, a licensed independent travel insurance agency, to common questions about this. Benefits, limits and conditions differ by plan and by state, and the plan document governs.
Who do I call in an emergency during my trip?
For a life-threatening emergency, call local emergency services first. Then call your plan's 24/7 travel assistance line, which is open every day, all hours.
Travel Insured Deluxe and Platinum: 1-800-494-9907 from the U.S. or Canada; collect 1-603-328-1707 from elsewhere.
Travel Insured New York plan: 1-866-509-7711 from the U.S. or Canada; 1-603-328-1720 from elsewhere.
Trawick Pathway: 855-226-2416 from the U.S. or Canada; collect 603-328-6308 from elsewhere.
WorldTrips Atlas Journey: (866) 400-6090 from the U.S. or Canada; collect (603) 328-6387 from elsewhere.
Have your plan number ready. These numbers are also on your plan confirmation.
Do I need approval before going to a hospital or changing my flight home?
No approval is needed for emergency treatment: get care first. Call the plan's 24/7 assistance line as soon as you reasonably can.
Medical evacuation and repatriation are different: they must be approved and arranged in advance by the assistance company, or the benefit can be reduced or refused.
My flight was just cancelled and I'm stuck. What do I do?
Rebook with the airline first and ask it for written confirmation of the cancellation or delay and its cause. Keep every receipt for meals, lodging and transportation.
Then call your plan's 24/7 assistance line for help with arrangements. Travel delay benefits begin after the plan's minimum delay (3 to 6 hours, depending on the plan).
I lost my passport during the trip. Can you help?
Call your plan's 24/7 assistance line for help with replacing travel documents, and file a police report for a theft.
Some plans reimburse costs: Travel Insured pays up to $100 toward replacing a passport or visa, and a documented theft of passports can be a covered delay or interruption reason on several plans.
