Travel insurance for families and groups

Answers from TravallamaINS, a licensed independent travel insurance agency, to common questions about this. Benefits, limits and conditions differ by plan and by state, and the plan document governs.

Can I put my whole family on one plan?

Yes, if you live at the same address. One plan covers up to 10 travelers from the same household, each listed with their own date of birth and trip cost.

Relatives or friends who live at a different address need their own plan. We can quote each household.

How are children priced?

Each traveler, including children, is listed on the plan with their date of birth and their share of the trip cost. How children are priced depends on the insurance company and plan.

The quote shows the exact total for your family, so the easiest way to compare is to enter everyone at travallamains.com.

How do I split the trip cost between family members?

Enter each traveler's own share of the prepaid, non-refundable cost, regardless of who paid: the amount charged for that traveler. If everyone is charged the same, divide the total evenly.

The Request a personal quote form has a Split evenly button: enter the total and it fills in each traveler's share, which you can then adjust.

If one of us gets sick, can the whole family cancel?

It can be. Sickness, injury or death of a family member or traveling companion is a listed cancellation reason on our plans, if the plan's conditions are met.

  • The sickness must not be excluded, for example as a pre-existing condition.
  • A physician must examine the person before you cancel and certify the medical restriction.
  • Each traveler who cancels must be insured.

Only the insurance company decides a claim.

We're several households or live in different states. How does that work?

Each household buys its own plan, based on its own state of residence. Plans and prices are state-specific.

Coverage can still connect you: a family member's sickness, injury or death, or a covered reason affecting a traveling companion as your plan defines that term, can be a covered reason for you even if that person is on another plan. Tell us about the other households in a personal quote request and we will quote everyone.

Do you insure groups?

Yes, we work with small groups. Each household in the group gets its own plan, so every family is covered for its own trip cost and state.

Send the group's details through Request a personal quote, or email info@travallamains.com, and a licensed agent will prepare quotes for each household.

Who counts as a traveling companion?

A traveling companion is a person who booked or coordinated the trip with you and will travel with you. If they have a covered reason to cancel, it can be a covered reason for you too.

A group or tour leader is not your traveling companion unless you share a room. A companion who lives at a different address needs their own plan.

Can I add a traveler to my plan later?

Ask us before departure. Email info@travallamains.com with the traveler's name, date of birth and trip cost, and a licensed agent will ask the insurance company whether the traveler can be added and at what price.

Can travelers who don't live in the United States be insured?

The plans on our site are for U.S. residents living in the states where we are licensed.

If a traveler lives outside the United States, email info@travallamains.com and a licensed agent will tell you whether anything is available.
